CD RW not recognized as RW after "upgrade" to Windows 11

Both CD RW drives (1 internal HP factory installed & 1 external usb) were working properly before "upgrading" to Windows 11. Now both are recognized as CD Rom only. Microsoft support is no help at all - just keeps trying to have me explore how wonderful Windows 11 is. I'd just get a new usb CD RW because dealing with MS support is a nightmare, but I'm afraid it wouldn't be recognized either,

    Hello there,

I recommend you to update the DVD/CD drive driver manually from the device manager and check.

    1. Press Windows key + X and select Device manager.
    2. Now click on DVD/CD-ROM drive and expand it.
    3. Right-click on the device driver and click on update.

There are various reasons why a CD or DVD drive is not detected. The resolutions that are listed in this article may help solve some instances but not all instances of this problem. You may also need to contact your hardware manufacturer for assistance with your hardware.
