USB TETHERING FAILING IN LINUX

I've tried installing multiple versions of linux on my windows machine via wsl, windows store but whenever i hit sudo apt update, it connects for < 15 seconds and then turns my windows machine internet connection off. I am tethering via USB since i am using a desktop PC with no wifi capabilities
When i check my connection on my android phone usb tethering is still turned on so i have to turn it off and on to restart the connection
