Azure Beginner: Cannot connect to SQL Server on a Virtual Machine that resides on Virtual Network

I have a dataset in PBI Service that fails to refresh. The data pulls from SQLServer(on a SQL Virtual Machine), which is located on a virtual network. I created a subnet for the VN and delegated PowerPlatform as a service. I then created a VNET data gateway in Power Platform Admin Center with correct configurations. In PBI Service, I added all data sources to the gateway, tested connections and applied the gateway to the dataset. I verified with a member of my team that I have appropriate access permissions to all SQLServer data sources used and that my login credentials are correct. I also verified that the SQLServer is configured to allow remote connections. My dataset refreshes in PBI Service are still failing; I receive a data source error that states "AccessUnauthorized" and "The credentials provided for the SQL Service are invalid." Any insight as to what I'm doing wrong or what I am missing here would be much appreciated. Thank you!
