Hper-v Network Adapter Does not connect

Hello,
I am having trouble with a VM connecting to the network adapter. Here are the steps: Create New Virtual Network --> External --> Apply --> OK. I start the VM and log in as an admin..the network connector has a red X and i cannot connect...

    On the virtual machines properties page you'll also need to connect it to the newly created external vSwitch.
