I can't open my excel file...

Whenever I open an Excel file, the following sentence appears and the file does not open.
"파일 형식 또는 파일 확장명이 잘못되어 '00.xlsx'파일을 열수 없습니다.파일이 손상되지 않았는지, 파일 확장명이 파일 형식과 일치하는지 확인하십시오."
"Could not open file '00.xlsx' because of the wrong file type or file extension. Please make sure the file is not corrupt and that the file extension matches the file type."

Please help me...

@SunhoCho-6186 ,
Could you please tell me what version of Office are you using now?

How did you create these workbooks?
It's recommended to create new blank workbooks in Excel to have a test.
Open Excel desktop application first > New > Choose blank workbooks, then edit, save it and open it.

1 If this issue does not occur with files created in Excel and occurs with files created by right-clicking, please follow the steps below to check a registry key data.
(Please note, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
Please refer to this article about how to back up and restore the registry in Windows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/322756)

There is an Office 365 (64-bit) installed on my test environment, and I would use it as an example.

  • Type "regedit" in Run dialog, press Enter.

  • Then locate to Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xlsx\Excel.Sheet.12\ShellNew, check the Data at right panel, make sure the data value is a .xlsx file. If not, you need to modify the value.
On my test environment, the value is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Root\VFS\Windows\Shellnew\excel12.xlsx.

2 If no matter what method is used to create new workbooks, this issue would persist.

  • Please backup some of these files first, go to File explorer > View in Show/hide group > check the box of "Hidden Items".
Then modify the extension, such as .xls to have a check.

  • Run Excel in safe mode to open files. Enter "excel /safe" and click OK. Then open files check whether this issue reproduced.
If not, you may go to File > Options > Add-ins > Manage, COM Add-ins, clear the check boxes for any enabled COM add-ins, select OK.

  • Repair Office on Control Panel.

Any questions, please let us know.

This is a usual error due to invalid file extension. This is mainly caused due to the following reasons:
• The file is no longer compatible with the MS Excel version
• The Excel file is corrupt or damaged
Here is a workaround which can be used in such situations:

Method 1 – Change the Default File Format to Save Excel Workbooks
• In Excel, click on the ‘Microsoft Office’ button and then ‘Excel Options’.
• Select the Export option.
• Tap on Change File Type option.
Method 2 – Use 'Open and Repair' Feature of MS Excel
• Open the MS Excel.
• Navigate to File and Select the Open option.
• Select the corrupt file and choose Open and Repair option.
• Click Repair to start repairing the file.
