I have a couple data disks from a old server (Windows server 2012R2) and reattach them another modern OS server (Windows server 2019) as part of the upgrade plan.
Is this supported by Microsoft?
I have tried to find supporting documenntation for this.
Please advise.

Traditionally we create a new disk and copy data. Is the new method a best practice for this, meaning take a snapshot of the disk and create new disk name with the snapshot and attach to the VM? is this kind disks eassignment acceptable practice which I am not certainly at this point?
I want just to be sure this is support by Microsoft in case we run into issue with the server or data disks in the future and need support frrom MS.

attaching an existing data disk to an Azure VM is a common task. I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be supported by Microsoft.
