I'm using the native client version 1.5.00.10453 (64 bits) on Ubuntu, installed with the official deb package and every time I leave the computer a few minutes, the app stops updating or so, thus I get no new messages until I actually start typing on a chat or click on other tab.
Also, sometimes the automatic Away status won't get back to Online even if I interact with the app. The only way to change it back is doing it manually.
Any ideas to solve this?

Do you have the same problem in Teams web client?
What is your Teams client version now?
As a workaround, it recommends you try to click your profile picture > your status > reset status to check if your status could be changed.
I have no problems with web client.
The version is the same than yesterday, it hasn't updated. Let me test the workaround you suggest, but I see no difference with changing the status manually when stuck.
Actually web client works worse. It sets me Away as soon as the browser tab loses focus...
