When is SharePoint Online Classic Apps EOL?

I keep hearing that SharePoint Online Classic Apps are going away, but I can not find the official EOL anywhere. If it is true that the demise of classic apps is immanent, what is the timeline to bring the same functionalities from classic apps to the "modern" apps? Modern Calendar, forms, lists, etc. all work differently for communication sites and Team sites and vary on where you can find them. So, if SharePoint Admins around the internet are going to be turning on the panic alarms about the inevitable death of the apps we use, what is the official response? What is the EOL? I want a date.

According to my internal search and external search，there is currently no official announcement that the SharePoint Online Classic app is about to be retired, nor a specific retirement date.

I can provide some insight here. There was a discussion about this in the Teams chat during the Microsoft 365 Platform Community Call on March 8, 2022. These are some quotes (shown in the screen capture below) by Vesa Juvonen - Principal Program Manager in SharePoint/OneDrive engineering, who is responsible for the developer ecosystem engagement worldwide, including documentation, guidance, sample, and open-source activities.

"... as we have not invested on add-ins for >7 years - as they are considered as legacy tech - we can certainly expect that it's going away sooner or later."

"SP add-ins were introduced back in 2012 - it's now 2022. It's more than decade old tech. No ETA to provide currently [on when SharePoint Add-ins may be deprecated], but we encourage to invest to SPFx in UX extensibility and to Azure AD based auth."

To summarize, you should have one year from the date that the official deprecation announcement is made before SharePoint Add-ins, and the associated permissions model, are turned off. The big question is when that announcement will be made. I wouldn't be surprised if it was tomorrow, I also wouldn't be surprised if it was a year from now. Either way, I would suggest that you start planning on how to transition/replace any existing SharePoint Add-ins ASAP so that you have as much time as possible to implement the changes.
