Changing the keyboard layout underneath an IME
Windows at this time seems to give no means to change the keyboard layout that sits under an input method editor. If you want to e.g. use a Japanese IME, the letters you input will be arranged with a US QWERTY layout and there's basically nothing short of editing the registry you can do to change that. I've got a couple of questions regarding this:
- Am I right that the registry edit solution is literally the only way to change the keyboard layout that an IME uses, or is there actually another way?
- If there is no other way, why? Is there any chance it could be added in the future?
The settings page for e.g. a Japanese IME provides the option to change your hardware keyboard layout, but this seems to show two hardcoded options with no ability to select some other layout. Is there a way to add items to this list?

Your default keyboard layout or input method is the one that’s automatically used with the language you see Windows in (for example, the QWERTY keyboard for American English). If you want to keep your Windows language the same but use a different keyboard automatically, follow these steps:
-Open Control Panel by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Control Panel in the search box, and then tapping or clicking Control Panel.
-Enter Add a language in the search box, and then tap or click Add a language.
-Tap or click Advanced settings.
-Under Override for default input method, choose the keyboard layout or input method you'd like to be your new default, and then tap or click Save.Even though it applies for Windows 7 you can try this out in Windows 10 also.
