Hello.

I am in need of some help. Not sure if I did this right, since this is my first time posting here.

I have an Azure Migrate server running on a 2022 server, the problem I am having is that a service keeps stopping at around 11 every day. When I look in Event Viewer it says the following "The Microsoft Azure Web App Discovery and Assessment Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 600000 milliseconds: Restart the service."

Event ID: 7031

Level: Error

I have looked in Task Manager > Services, where I can see the service is running "amwebappsvc" PID:4940.

When I go to services like normal however I cannot see it, my guess is it because it is a service running of a web browser.

The Azure Migrate assessment appliance is working well and there is no problem with that but the restart of this service happens around 11 every day and is a bit concerning.

I hope any of you can help me with a solution to stop this service from stopping everyday at 11.

I can also confirm there is no network issues happening.

I see that you are using Azure Migrate server running on a 2022 server and facing issue wit error "The Microsoft Azure Web App Discovery and Assessment Service service terminated unexpectedly.

We only support running Azure Migrate appliance on WS2016 currently and haven’t fully tested all the appliance services to run on WS2022. However, we know of customers who have deployed the appliance on WS2019 in the past and not faced any issues. This seems to be a one-off as we have not been reported any such issue before.

Also, can you confirm if it is only the web app Discovery and Assessment service that stops or is there any other service as well. Please try refreshing the services once from the portal (Hub tile>Overview>Manage>Appliances page) for the appliance where you are hitting the issue.

I tried refreshing the services and it was still all Green and the VM itself cannot find any newer versions of the different agents.

Hello there,

Do you have any Firewall rules or GPO applied? Do you have the auto-update and restart function turned on?

Is it clean restarting or is it crashing? From the System event log you should see lots of services being shutdown if it is a clean restart, followed by the event viewer being shut down at the time of the restart. If its a clean shutdown then before these service shutdowns you should see an event log saying that something or a service has initiated a shutdown.

If the server is just crashing, you can look at the memory.dmp file that will be created to see if its a Windows issue crashing the server.

The server is not connected to our AD at the current time, so there should be no GPO applied on it. Also it has free reign over the firewall so no issue there.

The event is simply crashing and restarting, nothing else. It comes up in a few minutes. There doesn't seem to be any issues as far as I can see, I can still Assess machines (which is what we primarily use it for) so there is no other issues than the service crashing and restarting, which makes me a bit conecerned.

IMO, this can be better handled as a technical support case. The ticket enables you to work closely with the support engineers and get a quick resolution to your issue.

Couldn't figure it out so I ended up just prolonging when it sends the alarm to every 10 mins.

@JanusLuther-0642 Please try below steps to mitigate the issue:

Go to Control panel => Uninstall a program. You should be seeing "Microsoft Azure Web App Discovery and Assessment Service" with version 1.0.8.572.
Uninstall this and please try to install this again by downloading it from this link:

Also, we do not support WS2022 and we have tested and stabilized WS2016 and working on WS2019. Please check if you can move.

And also, there is another version coming up in a few days requesting you to wait for it and see if this gets mitigated.
