Hi,
New to the cloud. My admin account in Exchange Online does not have a mailbox. The account was added to the 'Discovery Management' role group.
Does the admin account need a mailbox license to perform Content Search?

No, you can run searches/exports without a mailbox. The preview functionality previously required a mailbox, but using the new Purview compliance center UI you should be fine even without one.

Thanks for the reply.
'Content Search' does not show up for me in Purview, so it must be with the role groups. Thought 'Discovery Management' was enough.
In AD my assigned roles show as:
Exchange Administrator
User Administrator
Global Reader
You need to add yourself to the corresponding Role Group within the Compliance center, not the EAC. Use this link: https://compliance.microsoft.com/compliancecenterpermissions
eDiscovery Manager is the rough equivalent of the Discovery management role group. And don't forget to sign out/sign in after granting the permissions.
