When attempting to load MS Report Builder the splash loader appears, vanishes and then the app does not load.

Ive hijacked the question from Mark on another forum.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/report-builder-load-failure/d05dbb13-fec0-4cf5-98be-cf6876c7f1f1

Its the same behaviour for me ++ I am unable to update the .NET Framework, Mark also got problems with the .NET Framework

Edit: Now that I think about it that I am not alone with this behaviour... anyway I can report this as a bug to Microsoft?

Upvotes appreciated

Kind regards

Pathonet

I fixed it with Marks help

    "
So I have done more hunting into this error... Checked a few things...

    Go to this location

    C:\Users\%ENTERYOURUSERNAMEHERE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Report Builder

    Delete the user.config file...

    Open Report Builder... Fixed.

It looks as though when Report Builder crashes, it can corrupt your user config to the point whereby the .NET Framework gives you the finger and phones it in.

    Hopefully this is a resolution.

    This bug also affects me...

This is the .NET Runtime error I get.
Checking online, many people have the same issue, and most of them have no answer.

    Application: MSReportBuilder.exe
    Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.

    Hi @Pathone ,
This is indeed a common dilemma. According to my search, you may be able to try to remove every .NET Framework from the machine, then download and install the .NET Framework you need, the details are at this link: report-builder-will-not-launch.
By the way, are you using IE as a browser? I saw "In most cases using IE is the solution" in an article I searched for: cannot-download-report-builder-application. But note that IE may not be able to detect your installed .NET Framework, if you have this problem, you can refer to this link: report-builder-does-not-load.
    Best regards,
    Aniya

    Hi @Pathone ,
If your Report Builder crashes with a KernelBase.dll error when opening or closing the program or just when the program is running, it’s time to run the program compatibility troubleshooter. You may also need to update your drivers. In any case, you need to try to troubleshoot KernelBase.dll first. Please check the following link: https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/fix-kernelbase-dll-crash-issue/#:~:text=The%20file%20KernelBase.,The%20file%20KernelBase.
    Best Regards,
    Joy
