Question about VM instance for Cloud Management Gateway

Hi,

For deploying a CMG service in Azure, we have created a new resource group using Azure Resource Manager deployment. However, a VM under this resource group is yet to be deployed. While creating the Cloud Management Gateway from SCCM, we select the resource group and number of VM instance. So once we select a VM instance here and complete the Cloud Management Gateway wizard, does this automatically deploy a VM in the Azure ? Or do we need to first deploy a VM in Azure under the resource group and this field in SCCM is just to specify the number of VM instance ?

Thank you!

does this automatically deploy a VM in the Azure ?

Yes, but it's part of the Azure PaaS service and not directly part of or visible in your resource group.

No, you do not need to create any VMs manually in Azure IaaS.

    Hi,

Thank you for coming Microsoft MECM Q&A forum.

Agree with Jason. Here are some more information for your reference:
Set up cloud management gateway for Configuration Manager
Plan for the cloud management gateway in Configuration Manager

    Best regards,
