You may take a backup of files manually by copying them into a different location to make sure there is no data lost during the process.
What you have to do is to change the File History to a new location so it will start backup from new location and move files there. Normally, it shouldn't remove the history, because they are being kept by Windows, but you may run a test and create a small folder and set for File History and then change the drive and see it behaves as expected.
Moving an existing folder to a new drive keeping old FileHistory

Hello,
I have a windows 10 pc.
I have a new 1tb ssd and i want to move an existing folder from an old hdd (D:\Users\Image) to the new drive (let's say E:\Users\Image).
This folder is currently on the list of folders that are backed up with Start > Settings > Update & Security > Backup to an external drive. As for my understanding, if I move the folder with File Expolorer to the new drive, all the file history will be lost. Is there a way to move the folder keep file history?
I have alredy posted this question here 8ca91675-10d1-4cec-a764-dd4e79e0b027, where I was advised to ask this question in this forum.
Thanks
