Certificate verification fails for 'az login' - no proxy in use

When I run 'az login', I am able to authenticate into my tenant in my browser. However, after about a minute, I get the following error:

[SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed: self signed certificate in certificate chain (_ssl.c:997)

I am not working behind a proxy.

Also, I can authenticate with Azure PowerShell just fine using 'Connect-AzAccount'.

I've followed all instructions in the following forum thread with no luck:

@Anonymous Thank you for reaching out to us.

As I understand you are getting error SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED when you authentication using az login.

Was this working before ? Do you get the same error when you authenticate on a different machine ?

What is the validity of the certificate that you see in the portal also what is the certification path that you notice while you authenticate via az login ?

Let me know if you have any further questions.
