Hoping someone can help here, because I can't find a solution anywhere else.
We use two display one a Windows 10 system. The primary display (usually monitor 1) is connected to the motherboard HDMI port. The second display is connected to a GeForce GTX 1050ti graphics card.
However, when the graphics card monitor is active, Windows changes the monitor naming so the the monitor connected to the graphics card become #1, and the one connected to the motherboard graphics card is #2.
We don't want this to happen. We want the primary monitor connected to the onboard card to remain #1.
There is no way to change the monitor naming on the GeForce software utility. It insists on being monitor #1
Likewise, there is no way to change it anywhere in Windows (that I've found). And no, we don't want to swap the monitors. We want them to remain as monitor 1 connected to the onboard graphics card, and #2 connected to the GeForce graphics card.
I have seen this posted elsewhere, and there appears to be no solution, but I'm trying again...

Have you considered NirSoft's MultiMonitorTool?
MultiMonitorTool.exe /SetPrimary 2
MultiMonitorTool.exe /SetPrimary \.\DISPLAY2
Hello
Thank you for your question and reaching out. I can understand you are having issues related to multiple monitor.
You can select Make this my main display checkbox to become Primary of Monitor 1.
Also , you can give your Feedback to Microsoft feedback hub for Monitor labeling
