By endlessly reinstalling Visual Studio Community 2022 I at last succeeded in installing it correctly. I didn't understand why it was failing so many times before nor did I understand why it was succeeding the last time. So now I have in the General->Platform Toolset line of my project indeed the same and wished for "Visual Studio 2022 (v143)". So I started again compiling an arbitrary file of my project first with "Debug" (succeeding) and then "Release" with error=TRK0005 Failed to locate CL.exe. It is a pity but I have to admit I failed also(to be surprised). I would have expected both debug and release compiler-linkers would be the very same! So because of my activities started so long ago I would have expected Visual Studio Community 2022 should have known itself - being installed yesterday - where to find everything. So I had to give up again. And again to report the community about my misfortune. I am using Visual Studio - I think - about (nearly) 30 years and never used any environment variable like PATH. Possibly it might have become necessary now. Still I can't build a release executable. By an unexpected fortune I was able te build a release version very recently on the 15th of August and after that not a single one unless the community can help me. I experienced this 15 August success as normal never expecting to remain unable to rebuild a release version so long! What do I do the wrong way? Thanks to the Community for so much patience!

Can your project work on Platform Toolset “Visual Studio 2019 (v142)”? -

First of all "Thank you very much for reacting so fast!".
My project is a Mathematica-like program to show solutions for mathematics-students aged 12-18. Actually it has been finished for several years but I am still improving it. I built release versions from time to time most of them and for the greater part with Platform Toolset Visual Studio 2019 (v142). I was forced not so long ago to start using v143 and succeeded only once with v143. The last attempt for a release executable failed with "error=TRK0005 Failed to locate CL.exe. ". And that seems to be the end of my decades of developing.
My project has always been a desktop project to be used on schools without using the internet: every student on his PC running my executables. This all under MSDOS more than 35 years ago. If you might want to know more about my project's type I would beg you to ask more specific/informative questions. I will be eager to provide answers!
I developed a grafical desktop application and never intended to develop any text-based console application so I can't answer your question about a Console app. I wouldn't even know how to develop such a text-based console application! -

2022-09-06T08:11:19.837+00:00 In Release mode, please right-click on your project > Properties > Configuration Properties > VC++ Directories > Executable Directories > <Edit…> > “Inherit from parent or project defaults” is checked.
Then, rebuild your project in release mode. -

Inspite of my last report to you about my yesterday failing attempt to create a 32-bits release version with my Visual Studio 2022 I succeeded this morning a 64-bits release version that I subjected to my most normal test of solving my ± 6.000 mathematical exercises for 12-18 years old students of mathematics again with my Visual Studio 2022. So yesterday no success with my 32-bits release version, this morning a success with my 64-bits release version inclusive a 6.000 exercises test and at this very moment I can't get Visual Studio 2022 regularly started! Finally when I started my Visual Studio 2019 I received that infamous "The build tools for v143 cannot be found". It is very clear I am doing something the wrong way! If I only knew what I was doing the wrong way!I remain quite desparate!

You did help me a lot but left me afraid that your help might not be sufficient. Again starting my Visual Studio's project resulted in 2 error messages:
- The operation could not be completed.
- Value does not fall within the expected range.
And the only thing left to me was closing Visual Studio.
How will I finish my project and how will I build a 32-bits release executable?
Could you help me again? I will be stuck witout your help!

Meanwhile, the version 17.3.4 and 16.11.19 has been released, please update your VS to the latest version.
