How do I uninstall .net framework 4.8 and then reinstall it after a reboot?

Hi!

My .net framework 4.8 is corrupted and must be uninstalled and then after a reboot reinstalled again. How do I accomplish that? I have Windows 10 Pro and I have installed it myself. I am the admin.

I have tried to uninstall it myself using different solutions, but, it is just not possible. It seems like it is integrated into Windows 10 somehow. There are ways to use "cmd", but, when it says that it is uninstalled, it is not. I try to install .net framework 4.8 after the uninstall and reboot, but, the answer I get is "there is already a version installed that is either the same version or newer than the one you are trying to install. I have also tested the .net repair program from Microsoft, but, not even that works. If I go and start "appwiz.cpl" in cmd I will not find any .net framework to uninstall. Youtube has videos with information about how I find what version of .net framework that I have installed, and, it guides me to the registry. Because of that I know that I have 4.8. The way I used cmd to uninstall .net framework was to download the offline version of .net framework. Then run that file through cmd with /repair, and, the program will start. I get 2 options. I can either repair or uninstall. The problem is that it doesn't uninstall even though it says that it did.

Why am I doing all this? Well, I have a problem with my Vipre Antivirus. It runs perfectly fine next to clock and I can use the mini menu "by rightclicking on the icon" to start scans and other stuff. I cannot open the UI to desktop. Loading the ui freezes and it goes back down. I want to make settings to the firewall but because of the UI not opening I am blocked from that and it is very frustrating that the program does not work as it should.

The solution that I have found is this, and, it also describes my problem very well:

I have also recorded my problem and you can watch it here:

Yes, I tried the repair tool but unfortunately that didn't do anything and you are problably right, it is baked into Windows because I cannot find the KB file.

I think the only solution is to completely remove .net framework and then install it again.

If reinstalling Windows is the only solution to this, then I think Microsoft will have alot of problems moving forward. I cannot be the only one that this has happend to / is happening to.

There may not be a way to uninstall it now, but, I hope techies at Microsoft read here aswell and maybe can come up with a solution.

    Who knows... :)

    Hi @Dennis ,
Have you tried the solutions that uninstall windows updates in the following link?

    • KB4486129 - for Windows 10 RS1/RS2 releases
    • KB4486153 - for Windows 10 RS3 and later releases

    Best Regards.

    Thank you for replying...

I have tried what you suggested but my windows cannot find those updates. Could it be because it is a somewhat new install of windows 10?

I used both CMD and POWERSHELL... The file was not found... Which would be KB4486153...

Very annoying... They have made this a whole lot more difficult then what it has to be...

I really do not want to do a system recovery because all the installed programs will have to be reinstalled. There must be a way to just target .net framework 4.8 without having to do that...

if you have Windows 10 1903 or later, it came with .net 4.8 preinstalled. I do not believe there is an uninstall available. if the repair tool does not work, then you ned to reinstall the O/S. repair tool:

Ok, so, an update has been made to .net Framework a week or two ago (don't know exactly the date... I Forgot...)

I haven't tested to open Vipre since the problems happend, figured I'd leave it alone.

Today, I tried to open Vipre and it worked! Windows update solved the issue with the updated .net framework file.

So, thank you to the techies at Microsoft that apparently has been working on this and the help that I got from people here, that tried to help me... :)

    Regards,

    Dennis
