Outlook 2019 for windows cannot sent large attachments since exchange updated to CU23

Hello!

we updated our exchange server 2013 to 2013 cu23, since then users with outlook 2016-2019 for windows cant attach files over 8 MB. there is no problem with OWA or outlook 2011-2016 for mac

Outlook 2013 has a default sending limit of 10MB, and since there will be a 33% overflow, the default maximum limit is about 8MB. You can modify the message size limit by cmdlet:

Set-Mailbox -Identity "Debra Garcia" -MaxSendSize 25mb -MaxReceiveSize 35mb

If you want to send a large attachment, you could try uploading it to the cloud or compressing the file:

The information in your screenshot seems to have nothing to do with limiting the size of attachments. When you send an email with an attachment less than 8MB, will there be an error in the screenshot? The error describes that the mailbox has reached its maximum size limit and you may have to release the mailbox space.

Thank you for the answer, the message appears everytime a mail with attachments over 8Mb is sent with Outlook for windows.
When you send mails with smaller attachments it is sent without delay. Sending the mail with attachments > 8Mb from OWA, outlook for mac even mail from android doesn't have any problem, the server is set for 100Mb size attachments. I know the screenshot has no sense but it ss how Outlook maybe interpreting the error produced trying to send +8Mb attachments, mailbox has around 160Mb of 2Gb (standard set) of mails.

Have you tried to increase the size limit of the .ost/.pst file? Have you ever sent a lot of emails in bulk?

thanks for the answer, yes I followed the steps to set PST and OST sizes but not working either.

Just sending one mail with 9Mb attachments for test, problem was detected sending a pdf file about 11 Mb size from outlook for windows. same attachment was sent from outlook for mac and mail from android without any problem (as I thought it could be the fale that was corrupted), testing with other files gives the same error.

What is the version of Windows used?

Check if the mailbox is full.

Try creating a new user and creating a new profile to test if sending emails has the same problem.

1.- windows 10 and windows 11
2.- tested with 4 different accounts, same problem, even after deleting all the mails in one of the accounts
3.- created new new user profile in outlook for windows, new accounts in exchange server 2013 cu23 and same problem.

Problem started after updating Exchange server 2013 to CU23... before that emails with attachments around 20 Mb ( had a couple of bigger attachments) were sent and received without any problem
problem is only sending emails with big attachments, receiving its ok.

the problem its only with outlook for windows (outlook 2016, 2019), owa, outlook for mac, email app for android and iphone email app have no problems, read somewhere a similar problem in exchange 2016 cu23 but lost track of the page.

Are all windows users having problems or some of them?
You could try the following methods:
1.Increase attachment size limit in outlook by modify the registry
2. Restarting Exchange Transport Services
3. test outlook in safe mode, here is a similar case that you could refer to

I came again to confirm that after updating CU23 only outlook for windows 2016 and 2019 is having problems, outlook 2013 is working fine, right? Could you try using POP? If yes, that would rule out a network protocol issue. I am also doing more consultation to solve your problem, I am sorry for not being able to solve your problem in time.

Hi!, im sorry for the delay in my answer, I've been on vacation lol.

I have not Outlook 2013 to test the problem, but yes, the problem still there with outlook 2016 and 2019 (for windows), to bypass the problem we have been sending big attachments trough OWA, but users are not so happy with the temporal solution.

all windows users (laptops form windows 10 to 11) with outlook for windows 2016, 2019 have the same problem, since update to CU23 can't send attachments over 8 Mb, I already tried registry modify, server modify via owa and exchange command line; restarted the server a couple of times and the error still there
