Windows Auto-Filling NAS login information

Hello all,

Slightly strange situation; we have a NAS device that is used as a repository for most data and it seems that Windows is automatically storing username details without saving them in credential manager. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but some users have a normal user and an administrator account and the administrator accounts can't be used currently. The issue occurs on both Windows 10 and 11.

The NAS is a Synology device and I have been through everything with their support and they have confirmed nothing on their end is causing an issue. I think the issue is caused because the usernames are the same as the Windows usernames; except without any capitalisation. For example, the Windows username would be FirstnameLastname and the NAS username would be firstnamelastname. For reference, the admin accounts are firstnameadmin.

This info is not stored anywhere in credential manager; does anyone have any idea if what I've said is correct and any way to fix it? I don't mind if the details are stored in credential manager, I just need to know how to be able to switch to a different user account when needed!

    Hello,

You can try to enable saved credentials authentication through Group Policy. You can refer to the following steps:

Windwos key + R key, enter gpedit.msc, Computing Configuration-Administrative Templates-System-Credential Assignment-Allow assigned saved credentials users to authenticate with NTLM servers only, start the function Restart the computer.

    Best regards

    Thanks Zunhui,

Do you know why Windows would be automatically saving credentials, and where they would be stored if they are not in credential manager?
