ASTrace on the Analysis Services Git Repo

The ASTrace utility provides the ability to capture an Analysis Services trace and log it into a SQL Server table. The table can be queried later or read using SQL Server Profiler. The ASTrace utility runs as a Windows service that connects to Analysis Services, then creates a trace, and logs trace events into a SQL Server table using the SQL Server Profiler format. The ASTrace utility creates the trace using a standard trace template that you can author using SQL Server Profiler.

ASTrace is available in the Analysis Services Git repo.

Since SQL Profiler is deprecated since 5 years almost, wouldn't it be nice, to use replacing technology - Extended Events? (I am aware that technically the SSAS part of profiler are not deprecated, but XEvents for SSAS is out since 2012, so why base it on old tools?)

You are of course welcome to use XEvents for lightweight event collection. However, Profiler is still commonly used for SSAS, and ASTrace is a good alternative. XEvents to file output is not supported with Azure AS.

Thank you for your reply.Indeed, Profiler-use is still very common. And that will remain even longer when nifty tools like yours don't support the "not so new" standard ;-)But don't get me wrong, I totaly apprechiate your work and I kow that for a free tool I should not complain :-)
