My readings - a book in my bag always

It takes me about 1.5 hr to commute(in subway or shuttle) to office, which means I have ~3 hours to 'kill' every day :-). To better utilize my time, gradually I developed the habit of reading on the road and always bring a book with me. And I have no special order to pick up books, they can be out of interests, curiosity, relax and jobs of course. They will be listed along with key take-ways and random thoughts.

  • The Art of Project Managment - Project Managment is really a art

  • How to Win Friends & Influence People -   sincerely and diplomatically make people feel important

  • Twilight  - Love can happen between people and ghost. ingredients of best-sale books: romantic love, imagination, have a good ememy in the story, talk about mystery happening around people

  • Talk show about Ming Dynasty 1-5 (明朝那些事儿) - a must-read book about 300-years Ming Dynasy history(1344-1644). Besides the history itself, it can also be a mirror of why the current Chinese society is as it is now, why modern Chinese people behave this way, ...

  • Talks show about Ming Dynasty 6(明朝那些事儿) - The Dynasty starts to decline... Interesting enough, it covers the history of my hometown with the name of Liao Dong hundreds years ago. Some decisive battles happened in cities nearby my home. I will visit them again when I have time.

  • The last lecture - Buy your kid this book if you haven't. Positive always. Enjoy life. “luck” is where preparation meets opportunity.

  • Fortress Besieged(围城) - 克莱登

  • The Red Peony(红牡丹) - What surprised me most is that the story happens 100 years ago in China.

  • The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - let us keep these in mind: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win/win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, sharpen the saw. By this book, I start to manage my time by listing 1-4 level work item in Google calenda, which works pretty well so far.

  • The world is flat - How global economy goes around us.

  • Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything - "Open" can be applied to every field, not only software development. For example, mining.

  • Principles of Economics - "The book’s strengths include its ability to explain in plain language the beauty of economic theory; the concise manner in which real world examples are integrated into the text; and, the online assistance that does an effective job in complementing the text." I always believe 20% principals can solve 80% problems in most field. This book is the must-read book for gaining economy basics in an enjoyable way.

  • Roots - I especially love the first half of book - Before Kunta reached America. Africa also had interesting habits and culture, very nice. :-)

  • Moslemic funeral(穆斯林的葬礼) - A totally different world, but with same touching story.

  • A brief history of Time - learn ABC of modern physics. Wanna to travel 100-year-back? :-)

  • Why failed( 大败局) - Typical China company's failing reasons during 1994-2004

  • Big ideas to big results - about company execution, how to lanuch a successful corrporate strategy, introduce a framework

  • The Complete Sherlock Holmes - my favoriate detective novels.

  • Ma Yun Insider(马云如是说) - Quotes of Alibaba CEO, which can be applied globally, at least locally.

     

  • The Art Of War - Written 2500 years ago by Sun Tzu. It is used to gain advantage of opponents in the boardroom and battlefield alike.
