SQL 2005 SP3 Announced!

Yesterday, Francois Ajenstat, Microsoft 's director of SQL Server marketing, announced that Microsoft will deliver SQL Server 2005 SP3 after the release to manufacturing of SQL Server 2008, which is currently slated for Q3.

The service pack will contain all the cumulative updates (CU) for SQL Server 2005, plus carefully selected additional work, including fixes to issues reported through Microsoft’s customer feedback platform, MS Connect.

This does not mean that Microsoft is getting rid of cumulative updates.

"We will continue to issue CUs every 8 weeks for customers who need them. In fact, as more and more customers become accustomed to the process, we feel the model will become even more popular.”
