Build 2013 アップデート(1): Windows 8.1 Preview, Visual Studio 2013 Preview 公開

米国サンフランシスコ にて 2013 年 6 月 26～28 日 (現地時間) に開催されている開発者向けカンファレンスである Build 2013 が開催されています。Channel 9 にて ライブ配信 および レコーディング を確認できます。

1 日目 (6/26) の Keynote では、Windows 8 のアップデートのプレビュー版である Windows 8.1 Preview が公開されました。

新しい Window 化モード (複数の画面を並べて表示) やタイルサイズの追加、Bing による検索機能の強化などの新機能が紹介されており、Windows 8.1 向けアプリ開発には Visual Studio 2013 Preview (Windows 8.1 SDK 、.NET 4.5.1 Preview を含む) が利用できます。

タイルのサイズ変更やライブタイルの機能強化、XAML HTML/JavaScript 向けコントロールの強化、Hub コントロールの追加、DirectX 11.1 対応による ゲームを含む 2D および 3D アプリの機能強化、DRM つきの音楽/ビデオのサポート (CFF/EME) など、開発面でも様々な機能強化が行われており、デモでは Windows Azure モバイルサービス/プッシュ通知の利用、 3D プリンターのサポート も紹介されていました。また、Windows 8.1 には Internet Exploror 11 が搭載され、タッチ対応となっています。

また、Bing の機能を Windows ストアアプリから利用できる Bing Entity API も紹介され、Windows 8 から利用可能であった Bing Translator Control に加えて、カメラと連動して人物認識を行う Optical Character Recognition Control (OCR)、テキスト読み上げを行う ( 日本語にも対応) Text-to-Speech (TTS) API などが利用可能です。
