Import-ExchangeCertificate and CRT files

There doesn’t seem to be much information about this file type on the TechNet forums. Although the file is a valid certificate it can not be used to complete a certificate request.

The problem with this file type is that Exchange 2010 does not give you an error stating that it had a problem completing the request. In Exchange Management Console you would select the file and the command will complete successfully but when you run Get-ExchangeCertificate you still see the request pending. The same is true when you try to run the Import-ExchangeCertificate command-let .

The only fix is to request the vendor that issued you the .CRT file to export it again as .CER or .PFX
