What is Vista Aero?

I received a question regarding some of my recent posts on Vista:

Forgive my ignorance, but where is Vista Aero. I cannot find it in Vista Ultimate nor have I found it on the MS web pages

I’m sorry: I should have been more clear. Vista Aero is the new graphical user interface for Windows Vista. It displays glass-like transparent borders for windows. I believe it runs on all versions of Vista as long as the machine has a compatible graphics card. In fact, I was not able to run it on my Dell Precision 650 because I had to upgrade my graphics card. I tried upgrading, but apparently the new graphics card had an incompatibility with my disk drive controller.

I believe that Aero will be enabled by default when installing Vista on a machine with a compatible graphics controller.

I recently borrowed a Vista Aero capable machine, and thus was able to explore some of the Aero features.

My prior post shows how to create your own Windows Flip (Alt-Tab display) in Foxpro, and I already have it working in VB.Net for a future post.

    According to the product comparison charts, Vista Home Basic does NOT include the Aero graphics.  All the other versions do.
