Talk Show...(Webcast Report)

Whew, been a very busy week, but I wanted to let you know how the webcast on Wednesday went. (check it out here) First off, It felt much more like a radio show, with a host doing a monologue and taking calls from time-to-time. My take is that it validated my decision 22 years ago to get out of drama…

Second, It did go well. There was a lot of content that was covered during the session and we did a couple of demos including showing coexistence of messaging, WSS document sharing, and calendaring between Domino, Exchange, and WSS.

Finally there were a few questions that I felt I would pass on (Or you can check them out if you watch the webcast)

Question Log:
Q: Why would you not consider running this long term to interface Domino and Exchange environments where the client is unwilling/unable to move all users off Domino?
A: Answer: Coexistence is a completely legitimate endpoint, which Erik touched on briefly at the beginning. See also https://blogs.technet.com/collabtools/archive/2006/03/28/423406.aspx

>> Additional comments: I also talked about coexistence earlier this week. It is a valid state and often considered as part of a long-term topology.

Q: Ok so this is only supported currently for Domino R6.x. Not Domino R7 yet

A: Correct
>> Additional comments: We focused our December release on Notes R6.x mainly based on demand for R5/R6 tools. This is typical and we are working on our next major update that will support R7.

Q: What happens when the name in Lotus doesn't exactly match the name in AD? Is there a way to link the two?
A: You can manually match people up, or you can make sure that the AD user will match on the Notes proxy address
>> Additional comments: This question was about migration and a feature we have in the migration wizard to search and find existing NT accounts when migrating Domino mailboxes.

Q: When will the next version ship?

A: (I answered this one live) We have not made any announcements about a specific timeline, however our plans are to update the download bits on the web every several months with fixes/changes based on feedback. We are also planning on having the tools updated with E12 later this year.
