Cable vs. Phone

A few weeks ago I got a flyer in the mail from the cable company, Comcast, advertising phone service via their cable system.  We're building a new home and every phone/cable jack in the house is a dual jack, with both coax and cat5 in the box so I can easily go either way.  The convenience of one bill for TV, Internet and phone would be nice and I'm guessing Comcast would offer a price break if we purchased everything from them.  The thing that really excited me, though, is the flyer from the phone company, Qwest, a few weeks later.  They're promising better service and prices than Comcast.  They've even partnered with DirecTV to offer a full package with TV included.    Apparently it is a phenomena that is just taking off.  This statement in the Wall Street Journal today gets me excited about the possibilities.

"...consumers already have begun to benefit. Verizon significantly dropped prices for phone service shortly after Cablevision announced it was boosting its broadband speeds at no extra charge to subscribers."

Competetion is a very good thing.
