Windows 8.1 Wifi showing "limited" or "No Internet Access"

I finally upgraded one of my laptops to Windows 8.1 and my first immediate problem was the wifi adapter was showing "limited" or "No Internet Access". I know my home wireless is functional cause it works on other devices so I go through the motions of solving it.

1. Troubleshoot Problems with the connection - works only temporally

2. Reset wireless adapter - didn't work

3. Update drivers - no dice

This blog summarizes the 'workaround' from around the forums and other blogs I've seen.  https://everythingsurface.org/4-ways-to-solve-your-windows-8-1-surface-pro-wi-fi-issues However my issue wasn't solved after trying them out. I know my wireless settings on my router to accept only Wireless-N connections at 2.4Ghz (don't ask why), but I also noticed in Device Manager for the wireless adapter that it is set to 'Auto' for 802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4. I changed it to 'Auto', restarted and the problem went away. Hopefully this adds to the workarounds for whoever is having problems with wireless connectivity on Windows 8.1

Hi guys, i tried all the above methods but none of them worked for me. However i did find smt that worked, which is to revert your network adapter driver back to an older version instead of the one installed by windows 8.1.

You can do this by going to device manager, right click on your network adapter, go to update driver, then "browse my computer for driver software, then"let me pick from a list of...." , uncheck the "show compatible hardware" checkbox and finally select the older version of current driver (if you dont know which, just use trial and error).

Hey Kyle! You are the man :)  Your method lead me to the solution. But to document for: Lenovo G780 with Broadcom wireless adapter. Follow steps of Kyle till let me pick. Now, don't uncheck "show compatible". You see 2 drivers for the same broadcom adapter. One by Broadcom, the other from Microsoft. Choose the Broadcom one. Install. Springs back to life. (turning off heuristics,rebooting router,manual ip assignment none work)

Update 10/27/2013 Lenovo G580

I have fixed mine! What a relief.

I have the Lenovo G580, which has the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor.

By the time I was having problems (don't know about previously) Windows was configured to use the Microsoft driver for this device.

Same fix as others have mentioned but I will provide a bit more detail. Basically I located a Broadcom-supplied driver on my computer, and updated to use that. Immediately wi-fi connected, and all seems well.

Here's the instructions:

# Open Device Manager (search Windows Help if you don't know what this is)

# Select 'Network adaptors' and then open (double-click) Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor

# Go to the Driver tab and click the Update Driver... button

# Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'

# Select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

# Select the "Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor (Broadcom)" entry from the list, and click Next

Well, it worked for me.

  I found out the hard way that there is another way this happens. If you get a super new router (like the Netgear R8000), your devices may not be able to handle the higher bandwidth, and this causes them to drop the channels. You can test this easily by lowering the maximum bandwidth in the router settings.

  So my mother updated to windows 8.1 and couldn't connect to the internet. She decided to "fix" the problem by creating a new network broadband 2 and she can connect fine. However now I am unable to connect to the internet with my iPhone, MacBook, and work computer (windows xp) all of which never had an issue before. Any help or ideas of what she did to fix this is much appreciated!

  I have a Lenovo G580 just as described. I tried many of the ideas listed, but the concept of reverting to an older driver worked. I have the Broadcom 802.11n adapter (but neither the windows or broadloom driver worked for me)I browsed and chose: Broadcom 802.11 Multiband Network Adapter specifically It installed quickly and I went to the network and wifi connected instantaneously, what a relief. How to do this is described above, but perhaps this specific driver will work for others.Things are moving slowly so I may try a few other options.

  Hi I faced the same problem but got it corrected pretty easily. Under Control panel>device manager>Network  adapters, I right-clicked on my wireless device & disabled it. Again right clicked and enabled it and voila!!! I was online!!!

Frequently internet connection shows me that it is limited and until I don't restart my modem or my laptop the problem didn't fix. It is very, very annoying. I don't have any problem when I was on Windows 8, everything starts from tomorrow when I update my Windows via Store to 8.1 Pro.

  I ran an ipconfig /flushdns , ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew and solved the issue temporarly, after a few minutes the same. Then tried to update the drivers, same results. Disabled/Enabled the WiFi card from the device manager, same thing. Every once in a while I have to run the ipconfig trick to gain access again. I'll keep checking.

  Installed the 8.1 update:  the wired internet was working--the wireless was NOT.   SOLUTION FOR ME---->Went to Device Manager-->Network Adaptors-->Found my "wireless Network Adaptor (in my case an Atheros)-->disabled it-->and it went away in "Networks" on my laptop-->then I "enabled" it-->and viola, all my available wireless connections are now listed

  I finally fixed my problem. I'm with Acer laptop so I go to Acer support web site and download LAN drivers after that I installed it and after reboot everything is back in normal. I hope this will help someone else. :)

  Yeah, Kyle's way worked for me. I updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 preview. Everything was fine, except i couldn't print anymore. so I decided to update to the official version of Win 8.1, everything works fine at home, but at the office,  WiFi works, but connection is "limited" (which equals NOT working). I have an ACER AO722 with Broadcom Wireless N. The problem is that the Broadcom driver 6.30 isnt working for every router. I disabled the netword adapter Installed a previous driver version from disk Driver:  WLAN_Broadcom_5.100.235.19_W7x86x64 (you have to download this driver) and now it works after working on it over 2 days!

  I have a new iMac with Broadcom 802.11ac adapter running under Bootcamp. I keep getting "Limited" on the WiFi. I've tried everything so far: reinstall driver reinstall Windows 8.1 enable/disable the adapter nothing works. However in OS X it works just fine connecting up to my 802.11n router.

  Hello guys, i have strange problem with wifi. My wifi works normal but sometimes when i explore internet it stucks and doesnt load any page. So i have to reconnect manually to wifi again. So the problem is that im connected to wifi, but it doesnt work and i have to reconnect again in order to continue exploring internet ::( anyone got that problem? :D

  Thanks a lot, guys! I used a slightly simpler way than kyle's by:

1. right clicking on the network adapter in question (in my case an Intel Centrino Wireless-N2230)
2. selecting 'Properties', then 'Driver
3. clicking on 'Roll back driver'

  OK, I spent the entire day troubleshooting this.  I reverted to a Feb 13 driver, but that didn't work.  I tried all the suggestions above, no luck.  THEN!!!  I started realizing that the internet would connect after a restart and I left the PC idle for a period, say 3 min.  So, I started to look at the delayed service start ups.  I found that in my situation, brand new Thinkpad, I had to go back to a old driver, and remove Nortan antivirus that came with the system.  This had a delayed start up and my internet would not start until I removed it.

  Had similar problem. I was able to authenticate to VPN but could not gain access to the secure network. My network adapter stated "limited". The problem was the  network adapter (Realtek PCIe network adapter ) was not the most current. Installed version 8.020. Solved the problem. Thanks for the tip

  I followed the steps above for my Lenovo G700; it worked.  

Open Device Manager (search Windows Help if you don't know what this is)

Select 'Network adaptors' and then open (double-click) Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor

Go to the Driver tab and click the Update Driver... button

Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'

Select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

Select the "Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor (Broadcom)" entry from the list, and click Next

  Hi all None of the above techniques are working for me, I've tried them all. I have an ASUS Transformer T100 that runs windows 8.1. And its only a week and a half old. The internet connection was working fine earlier today. I dont know what the problem is. I use my wifi hotspot on my android to access the internet. I have just recently rooted my device, but haven't had any troubles with it since its been rooted. Could it be because my android is rooted? I haven't had trouble in the past with rooted androids. Any help would be much appreciated

  My partner was having the issue with a complete loss of wifi connectivity after updating to Windows 8.1 on his Dell Inspiron 14R laptop. Per the suggestion here, I installed an older version of a driver for his Wireless Network card that was in the list of available drivers. Doing this fixed the problem immediately. His laptop's adapter is a Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter, and I installed Driver Version 5.100.245.200 dated 3/14/2012. Thanks for the suggestion/fix!

  Hey @AndyNYC Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work. My Asus Tranformer just shut itself down and rebooted while fixing an error.. My Androids wifi hotspot shows "limited access" but my partners wifi hotspot shows full internet connection, but can't seem to connect to any sites or run any apps that need an internet connection. I hope someone can find a solution for this Thanks

  For anyone with Server 2012R2 issues! Kyle's tip pointed me in the right direction, running Server 2012R2 on my Lenovo Z570 and was experiencing similar dropouts (anywhere between few mins and an hour) with gateway unavailable symptoms.  Diagnose issues or resetting the WLAN device sorted for a short time.  Other devices were still connected wirelessly so ruled out my router (TP-Link TD-W8970) fairly quickly.  Started with the the default Windows drivers and downloaded Broadcom Win 8.1 x64 drivers to no avail.  Finally tried the Broadcom Win7 x64 drivers v 5.100.82.15 12/10/2012 available from the same Lenovo support site and connection has been solid ever since.  Will let you know if any further issues.   Well I did not have an option Broadcom 802.11n  under wireless adaptor , I changed  Ad Hoc QoS Mode to WMM Enabled. And changed the Mixe Mode protection to RTS/CTS Enabled then went back to windows network troubleshooter and clicked fix....walla fixed....

  I have a Lenovo P580 and found Matt's instructions for the G580 got me close to solving my problem.  The caveat is that I have an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200. There wasn't a driver loaded on my machine so I went to the Intel site.  Curiously, it loaded two drivers.  I tried the latest one, got the same result.  Tried the next one back, 15.9.0.5 and now it works. Good posting.

  I had an unstable wifi connection after loading Windows 8 onto my new Inspiron 15 7537. Trouble shooting this is well documented. Unfortunately none of the solutions worked - quite a maddening experience because you are blocked from using the internet. Fortunately this model also has a cable connection so I was able to continue, but the primary internet access will be wifi so this had to be fixed. It turned out in this case that the problem had nothing to do with Windows 8 but all the symptoms and error messages were the same as reported by everyone else. Fortunately the fix was very simple, it did not show up anywhere when Googling so it ending up taking a lot of time in trial and error (ie a lot of wasted time). Access the properties of the wifi adapter (right click on network connection/properties/configure/Advanced tab). Find the property HT Mode and set it to disable - that's it! Note: I'm not sure if this is a standard property on all adapters. In my case the adapter is Intel Dual Band N 7260 and it was trying to connect to a TPLink modem/router. The symptom was that after making a strong connection to the router, the gateway address would somehow end up blocked and then the limited or no internet access message would show. It was also a weird behavior. If I managed to make a clean connection, I could ping the gateway address to my heart's content but as soon as I started IE or Chrome, the gateway address become blocked and could not be pinged - internet access was no longer possible!! Anyway it's working well now so I hope this helps someone.

  I am deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan and I purchases this mobile wifi out here called Huawei hotspot. I was able to login into it for 3 days and then recently it is shows this connection as limited. I can connect to this wifi but it has no internet access. I know the wifi hotspot still works because my roommate can sign into it. I have read that the Windows RT tablet has had these problems. I have tried several possible ways to fix it (windows methods for limited wifi connection). If anyone has a solution to this problem please help. Thanks

  I have a Lenovo G580.  Wifi stopped working after updating to Windows 8.1 ("limited or no connectivity") Continuing from denpsch's post, where he quotes kyle's post: "You can do this by going to device manager, right click on your network adapter, go to update driver, then "browse my computer for driver software, then"let me pick from a list of...." , uncheck the "show compatible hardware" checkbox and finally select the older version of current driver (if you dont know which, just use trial and error)." What worked for me was to pick "Broadcom 802.11 Multiband adapter" instead of "802.11 g".

  Oh Yea.. You may need to Manually connect to your Wifi and change the Security Protocol. AES did not give me internet access but access to my network.. Forcing TKIP gave me the internet access.

  Just came back from a customer, same Windows 8.1 limited connectivity with a PackardBell Laptop with a Broadcom adapter. Wifi connection was fine with an old 802.11g Cisco Smallbusiness Access Points, but not working with a Cisco N capable, controller based access points. Driver was 'latest' from Microsoft. The symptom was, that DHCP was not working, client alway used an APIPA (169.254...) address. It seems, that the problem is related to WMM (which must be used when using 802.11N connection). Turning off WMM either on the Cisco controller or on the client under Advanced -> Settings -> WMM (switch from default 'auto' to 'disable') solved the problem. I assume, that WMM implementation in the Broadcom/Microsoft driver for Windows 8.1 is broken.

  UPDATE: I posted that choosing the broadcom worked.... It still kept dropping. I went into pc settings and found that I could NOT turn on sharing. reason - I had no password set on my machine. I went into user accounts, and put in a password - and then in network/connections I found I could now turn on sharing - (which helps apparently) So - now.... let's see :) will update if anything else... so far so good.

  I have a Lenovo Y580 with a Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter and when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 only limited status I had and I tried Troubleshooting it didn't work at all, I installed a windows 8 driver and seems to work but after a wile my connection is still dropping and the limited status comes back, I disconnect from the network and reconnect and works again but the problem still persists.In the Troubleshooting the results is giving me "The Default Gateway is not available" on windows 8 or 7 I didn't had this problem.

Upgraded to Win 8.1 and lost wifi until I did this: Kyle 19 Oct 2013 8:39 AM You can do this by going to device manager, right click on your network adapter, go to update driver, then "browse my computer for driver software, then"let me pick from a list of...." , uncheck the "show compatible hardware" checkbox and finally select the older version of current driver (if you dont know which, just use trial and error).

  I have had this issue and found that it was an issue with the wireless driver and the access point. Upon updating the wireless driver the issue was resolved for dell hardware. I have also see issues with World Mode on Cisco access points.

  My computer is HP Envy 23-d26qd TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC. I do not need Bluetooth or Wireless. for some reason my husbands ipad air is showing up as a device and I cannot remove it. I cannot remove or uninstall. I am having a terrible issue with Sound Recorder feedback. I do counseling work and record all my session on itunes to send to clients. There is now a screeching sound on every recording. We have tried everything and I think the ipad connection is causing feedback. 1) anyone else having Sound Recorder problems 2) how can I remove this ipad air because nothing is working.   I have also same issue limited access. It has been solved by activating DHCP protocol which was disabled.. So I request you all if you have same issue then please enabled the DHCP protocol... Please follow the procedure
  Open network sharing center -> Click on your wi-fi connection -> wifi status window (appear) ->Diagnose-> Repaired it as an administrator...

  I was similarly fed up like you. I was using android hotspot for wifi connection after two to three days it showed limited connection after proper functioning. However i tried all the techniques available here on internet. None worked. I wanted to solve this problem but it seemed as if my network adapters has accepted my wifi hotspot/router as 'internet access connection'. After researching alot in the settings, i found that windows 8 has preinstalled network adapters backup from all the companies with all its products. So you should literally remove the habituated settings of your network adapter. Follow this..
  1. Open control panel
  2. Go for ' network and sharing center'
  3. click on 'change adapter sttings'
  4. right click on wireless router present there. And select properties.
  5. Then you see your network adapters name, below which has a 'configure' button. click it.
  5. go to 'Drivers' then to 'update drivers'.
  6. click on 'browse my computer for driver software'
  7. click on ' Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
  8. Now it will show a installed network adapter, you have to uncheck the 'show compatible hardware' button.
  9. Now click on any company's network adapter.
  10. A window appears saying the selected network adapter is not compatible.
  11. still install it. and restart the pc.
  12. now your pc will not be able to detect wifi network as incompatible adapter is installed.
  13. Now go to Device Manager in Control Panel and click on network adapters.
  14. you will see your old adapter will a small triangle(lol:D)
  15. Right click on it and click update drivers.
  16. click on 'Browse my computer for driver software'
  17. then click on ' Let me pick.... on my computer'
  18. this time install the compatible network adapter shown you in the window.
  19. restart your pc.
  20. Tadda.. your problem is solved.

  Hi all, yesterday I managed to fix my wi-fi issue. The solution was to upgrade Zonealarm. The sympton was that no matter what I did with my wireless device it always showed as #2 and said that the driver was damaged. I think that ZA somehow created a virtual device that Win8.1 could not understand/cope with?

  I had the same issue with my new Toshiba Satellite S55t-A5389. Rolling back the Realtek8188EE driver helped momentarily but the connectivity issues always came back. I fixed the problem by changing the Wifi Mode to 802.11 b/g from 802.11 b/g/n, thus removing the 802.11n standard compatibility. This probably fixed the problem because my router is pretty old. To do this, go to Device Manager-->Network Adapters-->Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi adapter (or your adapter here)-->Advanced-->Wireless Mode-->Change value to IEEE 802.11b/g. Hope this helps.

  After updates to 8.0 to 8.1 I had no connectivity. My other devices had no problem. I would reset the modem and it would reconnect but when the computer went to sleep mode it would not connect again until the modem was restarted. I set the power option to never sleep and this seems to have solved the issue.

  Kyle has it right. If you need help figuring out which version to roll back to, try finding a number or letter that would ordinarily come before any number/letter you're looking at currently. I have an Acer Aspire with Intel, new with 8.1 is Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter Version: 6.30.223.102. I used Kyle's method and selected Broadcom 802.11a Network Adapter. A comes before n, which is how I determined it should work. It did work so a BIG thank you to Kyle!

  The proncipal issue here is Windows Firewall blocks the incoming dialogue from the DHCP server (usually the broadband modem / router at home), preventing a dynamic IP address from being assigned. Set up an Inbound Firewall Rule on Port 80, for the IP address of the router on the home network and all should be fine. You will find DHCP works and you can connect.

  You guys are my lifesaver! Well... my laptop's actually. I also followed what Kyle did. Used trial and error and fortunately got it on the first try. I'm using Acer and it's running Qualcomm Atheros AR956x wifi adapter. From the adapter list, I saw 2 Qualcomm Atheros AR956x. The first indicates Microsoft and the other Qualcomm Atheros Communications, Inc. I chose the first and voila! It's now working perfectly on wifi. Thanks a lot. Cheers!

It simply occured because some software conflict and all you have to do restore you system to the datr before you had any windows critical update installed..... And voila you are done... Everything works like a charm..

I clicked into connections and the next thing I know the whole thing went back to factory default. Why did this happen? I did get all my files back but need to know why it happened?

  After months of problems with limited WiFi and general connectivity problems on Windows 8.1 I finally managed to get it to work properly.
  
  In advanced TCP/IP settings under IPv4 protocol settings I put Gateway and Interface metric to 1 instead of Automatic. Now PC connects to network a little bit slower than usual, but it works. I tried everything I've found on forums with no luck and finally figured this out, pretty much accidentally, but it works.
  
  This is mostly for people with Intel WiFi card, Centrino-N 2230 on Lenovo ThinkPad 530c in my case, because picking Intel driver from list instead of Microsoft's (like suggested for Broadcom and Atheros in some posts I've found) won't work.

  Thanks so much! i finally installed back the previous Broadcom 11n driver version and.. i restarted my laptop, went to the wifi router setting, checked the "b/g/n mode" and restarted it and voila.. now i'm on the wireless N mode without any problems!

  HI Folks, Thank you for the useful tips, I HAVE SOLVED my " Limited Connectivity " issue, Win 8.1, Toshiba Gaming Laptop. Basically went to Device manager - Update the drivers for wifi adapter- Selected Let choose from the list- selected the OLD drivers - and restart laptop - Once its back GO back to same place and now " UPDATE the driver" - and let the system "Search from internet " option - restart and ENJOY !

  Hey guys, I own a G580 laptop. The limited connectivity issue started after I updated to Windows 8.1. I tried the above steps but it did not work for me. Once while browsing through forums, I came across this one which works like a charm for me. When you are in the windows where you select the hardware, un-check the show compatible hardware. You will get a list of manufacturer drivers. Scroll through that list and select your manufacturer (Broadcom in my case). Under the list of drivers by this manufacturer, locate and install multiple band network driver. Hope this one resolves your issues. :)

  I have the Lenovo Z 580, which has the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor.
  My Wi Fi Connectivity worked well for Windows 8 and I was able to get on to Internet, however when I updated to Windows 8.1, Wi Fi started showing ‘Limited’ and Internet stopped working
  
  The instructions provided here helped me to fix the problem.
  
  # Open Device Manager
  # Select 'Network adaptors' and then open (double-click) Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor
  # Go to the Driver tab and click the Update Driver... button
  # Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
  # Select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

  I had the same problem. In Win 8.1 go to PC Settings. PC Settings->Devices->Download over metered connections.
  You just turn On the Download over metered connections and usually it will connect right away.

  By the time I was having problems (don't know about previously) Windows was configured to use the Microsoft driver for this device.
  
  Same fix as others have mentioned but I will provide a bit more detail. Basically I located a Broadcom-supplied driver on my computer, and updated to use that. Immediately wi-fi connected, and all seems well.

  Tnx Kyle! This sollution worked for me, i'm using now 5.100.245.200 driver. My only problem now is that i can't get maximum speed. I'm getting around 30MB/s, while on other laptop I get 38MB/s. It used to be even lover, so I changed in adapter settings/more options IBSS mode from 802.11a/b/g/n Auto to 800.11a/b/g Performance.

  My daughter just tonight mentioned losing the wireless connection on her new PC 8.1 yesterday. I started to check what I could but she found someone that had the same problem and what they did was turn off the "auto wifi sleep mode" IT WORKED,YAY!!!! She fixed it and now I can go to bed.   My daughter fixed the same problem on her Toshiba (recent 8.1 update) by "enabling the router" in the devices area - select router name, right click (i guess some drop down action happens) and select enable (which is gibberish to someone who uses a Mac). I only get this techno-frustrated when i have to call comcast. Enable the Router is my Viking name. i want the hour of my life back i just wasted troubleshooting that thing.

  I've used the Kyles' suggest and worked for me.
  I sugeest also however to identify the adapater hardware in order to identify the manufaturer and model, and after select a older version of it in the adpater list that appears.

  Kudos to you. It happened to me for both ethernet and WIFI Connections after I had hooked up to internet tethering on the mobile phone. uninstalled the network adaptors and rebooted - all fine after that. Hard to believe this is an issue with the latest and greatest OS (8.1) that millions of people have purchased and use globally.

  I have the exact same problem with my HP Envy and Realtek I purchased for a Customer. We should be working for HP at this rate, www.skybridgedomains.com. Can't believe that something so simple changes the drivers.
  
  You need to go back into drivers and manually change the network card TYPE to Broadcom wifi n (doesn't really matter what version. Your computer will prompt you to restart as well. When you Restart the computer, you'll find the WIFI connection just work and WIFI listings will appear. You will be able to join any WIFI listing once the card type is changed to Broadcom WIFI n.

  Simply googling and downloading and installing the latest Broadcom Wireless Drivers (for Windows 8.1) rebooting, then disabling and re-enabling the wireless card fixed the problem for me.
  
  ** The disabling/re-enabling card was needed after driver install, as the problem still occurred, even with the new drivers.

  I own a Toshiba satellite laptop. As I have read, lots of people out there have this same issue with Windows 8.1. I have been trying now for days to fix my "limited access" on my wireless WiFi. I have gone through every fix out there to no avail. I'm writing this from my tablet. I am running a Norton firewall. I have turned both Norton & Windows firewalls off. I still do not get access. My laptop has gone through so many start ups. I'm lost for what to do next. Anyone have a suggestion? I've heard something about the TCP/IP. anyone heard of a fix ? I'm desperate.!!!

  I FIXED THIS PROBLEM , IN MY CASE MY DSL AND IPS WERE CHANGED AUTOMATICALLY .. THE THING I DO IS GO TO WIRELESS SETTINGS -- CHANGE ADAPTER SETTING -- RIGHT CLICK-- PROPERTIES--- NETWORKING--CLICKED ON INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 4-- OPENED ITS PROPERTIES --- CHANGED AUTOMATIC IPS TO MANUAL (for manual ips contact ur broadband provider ) ;) . . .

  "Hi guys, i tried all the above methods but none of them worked for me. However i did find smt that worked, which is to revert your network adapter driver back to an older version instead of the one installed by windows 8.1.
  
  You can do this by going to device manager, right click on your network adapter, go to update driver, then "browse my computer for driver software, then"let me pick from a list of...." , uncheck the "show compatible hardware" checkbox and finally select the older version of current driver (if you dont know which, just use trial and error)."

  Rolling back or reverting to the original Lenovo supplied Broadcom driver prior to Windows 8.1 upgrade will work as long as you uncheck your Automatic Windows Updates. If you select automatic updates (which is required) for the new Free Windows10 download, you will have this issue each time you restart the computer and updates take place.
  
  After the new Windows 10 is installed, the disable the auto update function on your computer will no longer work according to Microsoft. If there is no work around at this time, then the driver will have to be rolled back/reverted each time the computer is restarted. It has been mentioned on some forums that the ability to revert back to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 goes away after the Windows 10 upgrade is installed also. I do not know this to be true, but because the download version of each different operating system stores the Windows Key in the systems bias, I tend to believe this information to be accurate. The reason is, each upgrade will overwrite the previous Windows version Keys.
  
  Microsoft says this only applies to the Free Windows 10 versions available for download as of July 29, 2015.

  The problem is in the router, not the network adapter. The upgrade disconnects it in such a way that it has to be reconfigured and reset. The wireless provider should be able to assist if reset button fails to rectify the problem.

  I've tried all of the above solutions and none of them have worked. My problem is a bit different, however. My WiFi has worked for months with no problems until today when it suddenly said it has a "limited" connection. I can connect to other networks just fine, although I cannot connect to the one from my own house, which is routed through a WiFi extender. It's not a problem with my machine, because no devices can connect to my network now, be they phones or pcs. I've checked the manual on my WiFi extender and done every form of reset I can, all of which have not worked. All the lights on the extender are green and say it's working properly. HELP

  For the record the problem faced was when connecting via hotspot wireless, it would could and then go to limited.
  I followed the steps above, the only thing i would add for clarity purpose, in network adapter, select Intel Dual Band Wireless and follow the above steps.

  Well I tried all the abov steps but none of them worked for me. I had lenovo g5080 with windows 8.1. I figured out that tthis was due to a recent patch sent by microsoft then I restored my system to an earlier point and from then on my world changed for good. :-). Now I am connected to the internet world.
