Windows 10: Unable to update from 10041

Uggh. Got stuck at 10041 on WIndows 10, didn’t really notice it seemed to be working ok, but then noticed that the updates seemed to be stuck, as I had missed out on 10049.  Now the latest update 10061.  So I went to the insiders forum at: https://bit.ly/win10updatefix.

It’s a pretty simple fix, just run the command prompt and run a few statements.  Fixed my Lenovo Twist without a hitch.

Here is the command line instructions:

1.    Open a Command Prompt (Run as Administrator)
2.    Type: cd %windir% and press the Enter key.
3.    Type: net stop wuauserv and press the Enter key
4.    Type: ren softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.old and press the Enter key.
5.    [ Note: if you get an error message, ignore and type the above again and press Enter ]
6.    Type: net start wuauserv and press the Enter key.
7.    Type: Exit and press Enter, then go back and check for Windows Updates again

Jargon Jargon Jargon, might as well be written in Japanese, some of us are just normal middle aged people who are a little scared of technology.
