Introduction to Time Travel Debugging

Abstract :

Did you ever have to deal with a crash or hang or unexpected behavior of an application that is very difficult and/or time consuming to reproduce every time and wished if you could go back in time to one of the previous steps again without repeating the hassles of reproducing the issue again? Or have you encountered an issue in your application that is reproducible only on certain environments and you wanted to step through the source code on your development environment?  Or did you ever want to share a repro of an issue with one of your colleagues for expert debugging help who doesn’t have a set up to reproduce the issue at his end? If your answer is yes to any of the above questions, Time Travel Debugging is for you. In this session, we will introduce you to the  Microsoft Time Travel Debugging Tool, how to record and play back an issue and step forward and backward through the trace to find the cause of the issue.
