Why must any presentation be linear??

Hi…

it is an often repeated prejudice that PowerPoint kills the art of rhetoric. Well, there is certainly a truth in that. One might argue if it is PowerPoint’s fault but I also observe that (especially in business meetings) slides are misused as reporting tool. It is not to support your speech. It is more like those posters used in academic conferences.

Now there is a new tool on the block called plex or pptplex (see https://www.officelabs.com/projects/pptPlex/Pages/default.aspx). Sorry, this is cool…

The question it brings up is “Why must every presentation be linear??”. If we have to accept that people tend to use PowerPoint as a reporting tool, it makes more sense to cluster information not only on one slide but on a range of slides. While there still might be a linear path (or better: more than one possible linear paths) through your presentation there might be a new and different way.

Try it… I have used it for some time now (yes, it was an internal only beta for some time… eat your own dogfood!!) and I really love it…
