Powershell is a truly awesome new shell that we've recently shipped with .NET 3.0 and Windows Vista. What is it? It's basically the "Have it your way" of shells, think batch files on hyper-steroids. My buddy Rob has been doing some great posts about what you can do with it. A few of them are listed below. I strongly advise checking them out.

Powershell was not shipped with either .Net 3.0 nor Vista. Indeed, it has nothing to do with either one. It runs on .Net 2.0, and right now can only be installed on pre-Vista machines. A Vista release is said to be coming end of January.Anonymous

- You are right. I meant at the same time. Powershell 1.0 was announced at Tech-Ed Europe which was the same timeframe as vista, and .NET 3.0 shipping.
- RC2 of Powershell is available that works on versions of Vista and Longhorn.
- .NET 3.0 = .NET 2.0 + WPF, WF, WCF. So essentially they are the same. If you have .NET 3.0 installed on your machine then you can fully access it's classes and namespaces within powershell as it uses the .NET 2.0 runtime.
