BPOS–Customer Query: Convert from a Trial to Paid Subscription

After reviewing a trial subscription, you can buy a subscription with the same services or different services in the Microsoft Online Services Customer Portal. You may want to transfer your data from the trial subscription to the new subscription. Depending on which subscription you buy, you follow a different set of steps to transfer the data.

  • Transfer trial data to a same-service paid subscription: If you convert from a trial subscription to a paid subscription with all the same services, your data is automatically transferred.
  • Transfer trial data to a single-service paid subscription: If you buy a new subscription to a single service such as Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft SharePoint Online, or Microsoft Office Live Meeting you must take additional steps to transfer the data from the trial subscription.

To transfer trial data to a same-service paid subscription

  1. Sign in to the Customer Portal with your Windows Live ID.

  2. On the Services page, click Buy now on the subscription you want.

  3. In the Shopping Cart, do the following:

    1. Verify your Service Usage Address.
    2. Under Qty, enter the total number of licenses you want and click Update Total to see the new total cost.
    3. (Optional) Under Partner, click Find a Partner if you want to add a Microsoft Authorized Partner to help you with your subscription at no additional cost.
  4. When all information is complete, click Checkout.

  5. Complete the Billing Information Wizard.

All data and history entered in your trial subscription are automatically transferred to the new subscription.

To transfer trial data to a single-service paid subscription

  1. Do one of the following.

    • If your trial subscription has already expired, you must contact a support representative to buy the single service subscription and transfer data. For telephone numbers, see Contact Support.
    • If your trial subscription is still active, sign in to the Customer Portal with your Windows Live ID.
  2. On the Services page, click Buy now next to the service you want.

  3. In the Shopping Cart, do the following:

    1. Verify your Service Usage Address.
    2. Under Qty, enter the total number of licenses you want and click Update Total to see the new total cost.
    3. (Optional) Under Partner, click Find a Partner if you want to add a Microsoft Authorized Partner to help you with your subscription at no additional cost.
  4. When all information is complete, click Checkout.

  5. Complete the Billing Information Wizard.

  6. When the Billing Information Wizard is completed, it automatically starts the Service Activation Wizard. On the first page of the Service Activation Wizard you are asked Do you want to associate this subscription with an existing domain?

    Click Yes, associate this subscription with the following domain that is based on my company name.

  7. In the Domain name box, select the domain that you used in the trial.

  8. Follow the remaining instructions in the wizard.

After your new subscription is activated and the data has been transferred, you can let the trial subscription expire.
