Send Instant Messages and Send Money to Charity

I'm usually not one for talking about socail issues and charity, even though I do take advantage of Microsoft's donation matching program, but this was too good of an idea not to talk about.

There is a program that recently launched: i'm Making a Difference (https://im.live.com/

Rather than do a bad job paraphrasing the description of the program, I borrowed (read: copied) the following description from the site:

"i’m is a new initiative from Windows Live™ Messenger. Every time you start a conversation using i’m, Microsoft shares a portion of the program's advertising revenue with some of the world's most effective organizations dedicated to social causes. We've set no cap on the amount we'll donate to each organization. The sky's the limit."

This is a great way for MS to give back to the community, and for anyone to help influence which charities MS gives money to.  The best thing is: there is NO cap on the amount. :-)  While the list is a little bit short, all the charities are top notch and effective, and I was able to find a charity I feel good about helping.  And I know people IM all the time.  It is one of the preferred communication tools at work (if you can't be face to face).  I use it all the time.

A few other folks have blogged about this:

My IMs are sending money to the American Red Cross.  What are your's doing?
