Get Office for Today or Tomorrow
Today’s post is just a quick status update to keep everyone in the loop on the progress Office 2010 is making, as well as to provide finalized details for our Office 2010 Technology Guarantee.
Starting today, consumers who purchase and activate Office 2007 will be able to download Office 2010 at no additional cost when it becomes available in June 2010.
All you need to be eligible for this program – Office 2010 Technology Guarantee – is the following:
- Purchase Office 2007, or a new PC with Office 2007, and activate it between March 5, 2010 and September 30, 2010.
- Have, or create a Windows Live ID.
- Redeem your Tech Guarantee before October 31, 2010 by visiting www.office.com/techg.
The Office 2010 Technology Guarantee will be fulfilled online, via download, at no additional cost.

In addition to the Office 2010 Technology Guarantee, were excited to confirm that Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010 are on schedule and will release to manufacturing (RTM) next month.

I don't think that it is fair that you are only extending the Free MS office 2010 to people that bought Office 2007 only after March. I purchased my 2007 version just a few month ago. Those of us that are loyal MS Office users should be extended this offer to get 2010 for free as well. You are leaving out a vast majority of customers on this deal.Anonymous

For those of you complaining that you just bought Office 2007 and won't be eligible for a free upgrade: Did you get a working copy of Office 2007? Isn't that what you paid for? Microsoft is not required to provide a free upgrade, so just be happy they are offering this deal at all. Also, calling it a slap in the face to long time office users is plain dumb. We have known about Office 2010 for a while now, and if you are a long time office user, you know that their product cycle is every 3 or so years. Put 2 and 2 together, stop whining about your decision, and be happy that you got what you paid for.Anonymous

Waht about us users that have the Ultimate version of 2007 and got it a couple of months ago? This is not fair to use loyal useres that always upgrade early the the newest version. I have bought every version that has come out for office and never got a thng free. That is totally unfair to us..Anonymous

What are the license terms for the Office 2010 products? I've been holding off purchasing Office knowing 2010 was coming out. The tech upgrade doesn't really help as it would obligate me to license terms I haven't even seen yet. The office 2007 EULA is OLD. It doesn't even mention virtual machines.Anonymous

Just to clarify the offer site states: "Version upgrades, Academic versions and Military Appreciation products are all eligible for the Tech Guarantee." That could be really important for those who want to get upgrade pricing e.g. for Office 2007 Professional Upgrade, as there will be no upgrade versions/pricing for Office 2010.Anonymous

The people who just missed out on this deal, and can't take Office 2007 back to the store to do a rebuy have the right to be somewhat sad that they missed out on this offer. Not everyone follows Microsoft so closely that they would have known that the release of Office 2010 was imminent. This time around it is not like previous years where these customers could simply purchase an upgrade edition of Office at a discount, or even purchase the upgrade once the first service pack is released. Ironically the users that are most affected are those users who are using the latest version of Microsoft Office… specifically those who purchased Office 2007 recently but before March 5th 2010. If the last version of Office you purchased was Office 2003, you can simply buy an upgrade to Office 2007 now and get a free upgrade to Office 2010 through this offer. If the last version of Office you purchased was Office 2007 but prior to March 5th 2010 then you can’t get upgrade pricing. Considering the loss of upgrade pricing in the 2010 lineup I would think it would be a good move to offer those who purchased Office 2007 in the last 6 months the option to upgrade at a discount (but not free) to Office 2010. Perhaps those who purchased Office 2007 between September 1st 2009 and March 4th 2010 and have installed and activated the software could get an upgrade to Office 2010 for $100 (or some other discounted price) for a limited time. Many, many millions of people recently purchased new Windows 7 PCs late last year, many people just picked up Office 2007 at the same time not realizing Office 2010 was just around the corner. It would be nice to see a limited time Office 2010 upgrade offer for these users who purchased Office 2007 along with a new Windows 7 PC or the Windows 7 software recently. I know quite a few people who fall into this category, and I’m certain that a limited offer targeting these enthusiasts would be received well by the market.Anonymous

While it's sad to see I wouldn't qualify (having owned 2007 pro since 2008) I think the objections are based on taking the promotion literally: Buy now and get the new version for free, which leads people who bought 2007 earlier to feel like they were "ripped off." However it seems that the actual intention is that Microsoft doesn't want people to stop buying software until 2010 is released so they are in effect saying "Buy 2007 as a standby and when 2010 is released, you'll get that instead." It keeps sales constant and acknowledges that the people buying 2007 during this promotion are actually buying 2010, and getting 2007 as a standby until it is ready. cc I am not sure why you had so much trouble installing the Office 2010 beta. It was real easy for me to download and install. I would recommend downloading the full Professional version from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/download-office-professional-plus/default.aspx It's download and install routine is a little less complicated than the "click to run" Home and Business Beta version. I would also suggest checking that your version of Windows is up to date via Windows Update prior to the install. Good Luck.Anonymous

i'm very unhappy, that there is still the beta promoted to test. I destroyed my email-files with the beta last week. The RC version should be promoted meanwhile. Unfortunately Microsoft does only work on makeup and design. as long as they don't improve the vba-engine they can't do real improvents on the software (only buttons from left to right) and also worse is the desicion to take access and publisher to a -professional- version. those two products are not professional anymore.Anonymous

Just a few additional comments to address what some of you are saying:
- @CC: "on top of it there is no suport available for ofice 10" The current Office 2010 release available to download is a "Beta", which is a phase in software testing. This means Microsoft is really only releasing it out of the kindness of their hearts (they probably get most of their feedback from Connect members and Technet/MSDN subscribers anyway so releasing it to home users is just them being nice). Beta software is NEVER supported. If you don't know enough to figure stuff out by yourself, then you should stick to release versions. Don't think of it as "free software", but more so as an "extended trial".
- To those of you who "just bought" Office 2007 prior to the start date of this program, stop crying. If MS had to replace every copy of Office 07 purchased since Jan 1 with a copy of Office 10, it would not make any business sense whatsoever, and they wouldn't do the program at all. Anyone who "loves office" should have known that Office 10 has been in TP/Beta stages since last summer, and this upcoming release was always said to be around Q1/Q2 2010. Just thought I'd settle some of that.. some of you people are quite spoiled.

If ANYONE can help me with ANY information I would feel forever in debt to you! I downloaded the Windows 7 and the Office 2010 at the same time. I have had nothing but troubles with my computer. My computer does not recognize Outlook 2010 as an e-mail service. So, I'm not able to sync my Itouch or my cell phone with any of my contacts, calendar events, or e-mail (which has been a huge problem!). My printer will no longer print from my computer, I'm not able to open up certain Adobe or PDF files, Microsoft word will not allow me to use any of the functions on the ribbon bar because, "There is not enough memory to preform this action". I have spent literaly HOURS on the phone with tech help, customer service, and chat sessions with them. No one will help me with anything. At this point I just want my computer back to what it was before the downloads! Oh, and earlier someone asked about their previous version of Office 2007 when they upgrade to Office 2010. Don't uninstall it! If only I would have saved mine... The system recovery is also not giving me any dates for my computer prior to the "upgrade" date. I downloaded my 2007 version and therefore, do not have a disc to reinstall the program. HELP!!!!!!Anonymous

Help! If you please, I am running Office 2003 and Office 2010 Beta at the same time. Since I can run only one (1) Outlook at a time, I am using Outlook 2010 Beta for my contacts and important emails. I need to retain this information. I have now purchased Office 2007 so that I can upgrade to 2010 when it becomes available. However, I am afraid to install it. Should I let Office 2007 delete all other versions—if so what will happen to my Outlook 2010 contacts and emails? And will it delete 2010 Beta as well as 2003? Should I install Office 2007 and leave Office 2003 and 2010 as working office suites?Anonymous
