From Santa’s Village to Your Chimney: NORAD and Internet Explorer Deliver Holiday Cheer to Any Device

Since 1955, Santa fans of all ages have tracked his reindeer-guided route with the help of the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s (NORAD’s) radar, satellites and jet fighters. This year, Microsoft joined the fun to create an interactive experience that extends to any device with the launch of the new www.NORADSanta.org.

Inspired by NORAD’s long history of tracking Santa and the Claymation style classic holiday movies, NORAD and the Internet Explorer team rebuilt the Web experience from the ground up. In addition to tracking Santa in flight, the tens of millions who visit the site every year can immerse themselves in the holiday throughout the month.

The new website features a re-creation of Santa’s village that you can explore to discover new games, music, videos and more. It’s supported by web standards like HTML5 and WebGL, so you can experience the site on almost any web-enabled device, iOS, Android, or Windows.

“The Internet Explorer team and everyone at Microsoft have taken the spirit of the holidays that’s central to what we do with NORAD Tracks Santa and helped bring it to today’s modern web and devices,” Stacey Knott, NORAD Tracks Santa Program Manager, told us. “We’re hearing so many fun comments from people who are checking out the new website and apps and love what they see.”
