Want all the Windows Update Security Updates in an easy to use, downloadable ISO?

A customer recently complained to me “I wish I could get all the Security Updates on DVD instead of thru the WSUS catalog or Windows Update!”

I like requests like that one, because I get to have an easy answer, that immediately fills the customers request\need.

You can get all the Monthly Security Update Releases on a downloadable DVD from Microsoft.com

Microsoft now releases ISO-9660 DVD5 image files that contain all the security updates that are released on the Windows Update website. The ISO image files are released at the same time that security updates are released on the Windows Update website.
The ISO image files are intended for corporate administrators who:

  • Manage large multinational organizations
  • Must download multiple individual language versions of each security update
  • Do not use an automated solution such as Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)

By using the ISO image files, administrators can download multiple updates in all languages at the same time.

Download your DVD ISO image file here KB913086

But what next? Can you identify which files you really want from the iso image with just one click?

Note that office updates aren't included.
@Felix: Open the ISO with your favorite file archiver. You can extract what you want. Files are divided so you can figure out easily which are needed.

hi.. i have downloaded security update iso file, there is no setup or exe file to reun these updates at once. My question is, how to install these update... I think these updates only be install as one by one, if it is the case, its realy useless, because i have to restart my system after installing every single update.. just wastage of time.. windows can install them more quickly then manual..

Has this feature (all updates on an ISO image) been abandoned? The latest I see is April 2015, it's now July 2015. If it's no longer available, an official notice should be applied to posts that mention it as if it still exists.

I don't know why, but the latest image does not always post to the KB913086 site as soon as it is available. And, the iso is often posted a bit later than Patch Tues. I use Google and the search terms 'Month' 'Year' Security Release ISO image to find the latest version.

MS KB934307 describes the Windows Update Standalone Installer, wusa.exe. It is resident in Win 7 and 8. It is not on the ISO image. If you double click on the desired msu update file on the disk, the Standalone Installer will open and install the update. I did install the updates one by one, so a month's worth took perhaps 40 min.

Generally the ISO comes out when Microsoft thinks there are no further updates.
    @Ralph T: If it isn't coming from Microsoft's site, I wouldn't trust it.

@Ed: Googling brings up the August 2015 ISO from Microsoft's website, but it is still not listed on the KB913086 site.

So after downloading the month's patches, there is no automated process besides WSUS to install them? In what order do you install them? Do you need to reboot after each install?
