When Trying to install a update you get "The expected version of the product was not found on the system."

I came on my test environment across this problem when trying to install the latest update I've got the error message: "The expected version of the product was not found on the system" this can occur on Project 2007 and 2010.

Running the following command from the command prompt will do the trick "office-kb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1"

PS: Make sure to run the Package bypass command with Caps

    works perfectly.. i tried to install a project 2010 patch which got failed in few test machines.

    Thanks. Worked for Windows 8. It said extracting files instead of giving me that pesky error. Where does it copy the files to anyways?

    I can not find this on my computer, this is what I receive:
    'office-kb.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    Marius, you need to change office-kb.exe with the actual name of the KB that you are trying to install.

    i passed detection check and it says installation is complete but my hotfix did not change version
    i want sharepoint 14.0.6129.5000 update.

    Thank you, Raymond! Worked great on my Win 8.1. I had a trouble with Word 2007 missing some spaces in docs created in Word 2010, so I wanted to install the Service Pack 3 to solve the problem, but could not because of that error. Now it's fixed!

    no luck re office 2000 premium SP3 upgrade. Expected version not found. Also in dos we get the famous wrong command or file name.

    I have office 2010 SP2 14.0.7015.000 (32-bit)
    when KB didn't install, i did as you said
    osetup2010-kb2553378-fullfile-x86-glb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1

    it does run and said installation is completed,
    but no version number changed within office File-Help,
    nor is Windows Programs and Features is showing the number of this upgrade in installed office updates.

    I am not sure whether it actually installed.

    Doesn't work for me. Am I entering the wrong command? Does the location of the file matters, or do I need to change some pre-configuration in order to run the patch by command prompt?
