The Associated Press on Windows phone – Case Study

News Cooperative Creates Touch-Friendly Mobile News Service for Windows Phones

As newspapers seek a way to thrive in the world of digital media, The Associated Press is assisting by identifying new outlets and revenue streams for member news providers. Its first response is AP Mobile, which delivers international, national, and local news from more than 1,000 content providers to Windows® phones. The application takes advantage of gesturing, a touch-friendly interface, and polling that delivers breaking news alerts.

The business model of AP Mobile is based on advertising, so the AP has created a new revenue stream in which its members can participate, freeing them up from devoting time and resources on their own to negotiate with the major mobile phone carriers. Member news organizations also gain the opportunity to sell local ads and to introduce their content to new and younger audiences.
