I've heard it said before that software doesn't ship, it escapes. Ask Mode is that phase in the software development life cycle when we start removing some of the barriers to make that possible. In this blog post, Team System’s Jiminy Cricket, Jeff Beehler, shares his thoughts around this exercise in self-restraint that allows us to ship software in what most people already consider a protracted development process.
The interesting thing about ask mode is that a vast majority of the bugs that get presented get approved. Of course, there are the bugs that never make it to the ask mode review because the feature teams make the judgment that some combination of the customer impact, frequency and risk of the fix does not justify fixing the problem at this point in the cycle.
