Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Process Editor launched

Yesterday Microsoft released the Team System Process Editor as part of the Team Foundation Server Power Tools release v1.2.

Overview

The Process Editor provides a convenient method of viewing and customizing process templates. The Process Editor can work in two modes: Connected and Disconnected. In Connected mode, the Process Editor interacts with your Team Foundation server, enabling you to interact with the items in an existing project on the server. The list below indicates which tasks will need you to be in connected mode and which you can perform in disconnected mode.

o Edit process template files (processtemplate.xml). [Disconnected],

e.g. before creating a project, you want to add new work item types to the process template or change the existing work item types, or add default work items etc.

o Edit and manage stand-alone work item type definitions.

§ Edit work item type definition on an existing live project. [Connected],

e.g. if you want to add, rename or remove fields from a work item on an existing project.

§ Export or import work item types between an existing project on the Team Foundation server and a file on your computer. [Connected],

e.g. if you want to take a work item type on an existing project, save it as a file and then use that work item type on another project or in a process template.

§ Edit work item type definition file saved on your computer. [Disconnected]

o Edit and manage global lists. (For more information on Global Lists, see How to: Use a Global List on MSDN.)

§ Open Global list on a server. [Connected]

§ Export or import Global lists between a Team Foundation server and a file on your computer. [Connected]

§ Edit Global list file saved on your computer. [Disconnected]
