Can the SAP Connector for .NET be used in Visual Studio 2005?

Since the release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, we have received many questions regarding the SAP Connector for .NET and its lack of support in Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

The design-time environment of the SAP Connector for .NET works only in Visual Studio 2003; the runtime environment of the SAP Connector for .NET works correctly with .NET Framework 1.1 and with .NET Framework 2.0. Proxies generated using Visual Studio 2003 may be transferred to Visual Studio 2005 without problem. Existing solutions developed [using Visual Studio 2003] for .NET Framework 1.1 will run – unchanged – on .NET Framework 2.0.

It is possible to install Visual Studio 2003 and Visual Studio 2005 with both versions of the .NET framework – side by side - on the same machine. It is not then necessary to have a separate machine to develop the proxies.

Please note the SAP Connector for .NET is an SAP technology. Visual Studio and the .NET Framework are Microsoft technologies.
