SBS 2011 Standard Now Available for “Try and Buy”

We are happy to announce that today, a few weeks after Windows Small Businesses Server 2011 Standard was released to manufacturing, you can download an evaluation copy of the software directly from our website.

On the same day, our SBS website will be refreshed to help you maximize your experience with the new SBS products. The site’s new graphics, videos, and content are aimed at facilitating the software evaluation and providing additional information and guidance to our customers and partners.

The evaluation kit for SBS 2011 Standard is valid for 180 days. If at any time during or after the evaluation period, you decide that Windows SBS 2011 Standard is the right solution for your business, you can easily convert the evaluation version to a full licensed version.     Graeme 01-18-2011 11:43 AM Hi there, On a licensing aspect what if I were to put a client onto the Evaluation what type of license would activate on this? Retail, VLK or either!?! --> Hi Graeme, yes you can attach any license for clients to the eval (Retail, VLK, OEM, etc) - there are no restrictions to that.

I'm particularly interested in learning more about the features that were bundled with SBS 2008 Premium and whether or not those features will be maintained or even enhanced in 2011. Also, will the 2nd server license still be included -- can I assume it will be Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard? What about SQL Server -- is that being updated to R2? --> Hi Doug,  We no longer have a Premium Editon available for SBS. We have moved to a Premium Add-on model which can be used fro both SBS 2011 Standard and Essentials.  You can learn more about this at www.microsoft.com/.../editions-overview.aspx (it is near the bottom of that page).  In essence the Premium Add-on is made up of Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard + SQL Server 2008 R2 for Small Business (which is SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard restricted to use on in an SBS 2011 domain).  As per technical specs, you can use the WS and SQL sepcificatons to determine those - as they will be scoped towards the scenarios you are using, LOB apps, etc

    As of 1-19 SBS2011 still has not been released on MPN.  Will it be possible then to unlock and license the version available here with a Partner key (Physical/Virtual)? Thx

    Hi Tony Insted of upgrading your SBS2003 you should look at Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation - www.microsoft.com/.../licensing-r2.aspx x64, max. 15 users, max. 8GB less than US$ 250,-
