How much does Bing Maps cost?

I've been asked this a few times by people thinking about integrating the Bing Maps platform into their apps.

So the answer is – "it could be free for you" . In the licensing FAQ it states that one of the pricing models for Bing Maps is "Usage Based". That is, you pay for how many transactions or sessions your site records against Bing Maps in a 12 month period.

If we look in the full Terms of Use, you'll find more detail on this Usage Based licensing. Assuming you are a commercial organisation these terms state that you can use Bing Maps on your web site without entering into a licensing agreement as long as your application is an unrestricted public facing web site that does a limited number of transactions per 12 months, and you meet some other criteria... if that's you, go check out the other conditions!

The licensing FAQ link above includes contact points in case you need clarification.

If you want to get started with integrating Bing Maps with your application, check out the interactive SDK.

So Microsoft's position on publishing pricing is that you should use your time developing a feature based on their service then once you know how much it will be used then they will say how much it costs for that level of use?

There are two answers here. Firstly, sorry for not answering the question... but I couldn't. The data could change. So I tried to point you at the single place of truth :) I just checked and note that the whole site has been updated since I posted this so I think it was sensible. At the time of writing it says it is free for public web sites if "you do not exceed 125,000 cumulative billable transactions (which will be free of charge) as defined in the SDKs, in any twelve month period". Like I said, this may change so check the links above. Secondly no, David, I believe you can get costs through volume licensing or bing maps agreements per the web site... you need to follow those links.

Thanks for the support Tim! :-P This is over 5 years old and was only a link-post because it was a fast-changing area at the time.
