Steve at Startups Live

By Matt Brady

Steve Clayton, CTO at the Microsoft Partner Group, presented at Bristol's Startups Live last week.  His talk was about using the online medium to reach customers, exploring today's long tail phenomenon, Office Live, Seth Godin, The English Cut (a hugely popular and much-discussed blog) and more.  You can peek at his presentation by visiting his blog Geek in Disguise.

You may also find the stats below interesting, which I have taken from his slides:

  • 70% of small businesses have a website
  • 60% (1-10 employees) , 81% (10-50 employees)
  • 2 out of every 10 small businesses websites do not have company contact details or product/ service information.
  • Only 15% have e-commerce functionality
  • 51% use their website for marketing
  • Monthly website updates are the most common for small businesses
