Google's YouTube hits a wall of resistance

Ouch.  Viacom is seeking some $1b against Google for copyright infringement.

It will be very interesting to see how this pans out especially from a legal standpoint.  This case will have the potential to set the stage for many future such cases as our world becomes more and more digital.

There is currently an ongoing debate about whether google has actually factored in this legal risk/burden during the purchase of youtube. Some people speculated that google actually anticipated such actions by the media companies and after weighing the pros and cons, they still decide to proceed. Some people claimed that the loss of losing youtube to other competitor is worse than suffer the legal cost of buy/holding youtube. And some people even went further to claim that google wanted to get the best copyright/legal people from youtube (some claimed to be the brightest) to work in google as sooner-or-later, they will face the same issue.
