A new Microsoft corporate homepage is in testing.
I like some of it but not all - it looks overly complex and would be cool if it fitted on a single view page as a homepage but what do I know? I like the search and mouseover elements and given this is still in the labs I expect there is much more to come.
The site guide is fantastic though and leans from IE7 which is kind of ironic.
Joe Wilcox at Microsoft Watch likes it and comments that it meets "two hallmarks of good product design: Increased simplicity and decreased complexity".
Btw, anybody else notice that Mary Jo-Foley moved to All about Microsoft and Joe Wilcox from Microsoft Monitor took the hot seat on Microsoft Watch? I thought we did re-orgs too often!

Two addtional points that I noticed:
- The accessibility of the new homepage has improved. It no longer uses tables.
- The number of validation errors has increased. The new homepage contains a large number of errors so it's not valid XHTML 1.0 Strict as it claims to be according to it's DOCTYPE (http://validator.w3.org). The old homepage is only two errors away from being valid HTML 4.0 Transitional.
