I meant to blog about this back when we announced it at MIX09 – for anyone who has tried to install Microsoft’s web stack (server, tools, database) the Web Platform is a lifesaver. It used to be a black art to install all the right bits in the right order and make it all work. With the Web Platform it’s all done for you.
What do you get? A platform that powers plenty of high profile websites, both Fortune 500 and Silicon Valley comprising ASP.NET, IIS7, SQL Server, Visual Studio and Expression Web.
Oh and don’t forget to check out the Windows Web App Gallery, a simple way to find and install popular and free open source ASP.NET and PHP web applications for Windows.

Have been checking this out over the last week and throwing together a couple of proof-of-concepts using Silverlight to connect to an Informix phone system for a wallboard project, and it's great stuff, considering it's free!
