I just finished reading this book by Keith Ferrazzi about networking – some interesting concepts and ideas in there though I left thinking would they work as well UK business as US business given our different cultural approaches. My guess is probably not and from what I have seen a more subtle approach is more prevalent in the UK.
I particularly enjoyed the part of the book that talks about conferences as the ultimate networking event. Traditionally I’ve used conferences to attend sessions and do some light networking by just bumping in to people but Ferrazzi advocates a more shark like approach.
Worth a read. I followed this up with Lance Armstrong’s “Every Second Counts” which was a pretty easy read but nonetheless inspirational. 7 times Tour winner and cancer survivor but he comes across as a pretty regular guy who drinks beer and enjoys life. I’ll never forget his look back to Jan Ullrich in the 2001 Tour on L’Alpe d’Huez. Confidence personified :)
